Fibro patients tend to have lower levels of certain neurotransmitters and endorphins, which may leave them more vulnerable to pain. Serotonin, a neurotransmitter responsible for calming the mind and muscles, is lacking in the fibro brain, as is growth hormone (critical for maintaining and repairing muscle), and the endorphins that act as natural painkillers.
